thrill-xo:

Personally, I love the song. I love it more every time I hear it.

I don’t think it’s a newer Abel as such. I think it’s the same Abel going through/doing different things. I feel like he’s always being honest with us in his music. And that’s one of the things I love about him.

In Trilogy, he was stuck in his home city, homeless at some point, probably heartbroken/betrayed by someone too, so a lot of that music is quite dark.
Since then, he’s obviously become a lot more famous, a lot richer with a lot more attention to be happy as well as wary about. And I think that definitely comes across in the music he’s released this year. He talks about the money, the shows, the haters, the girls, basically what he’s been up to this year.

Another thing I love about KOTF is how he shouts out his friends. Drake, Stix, Doc all get a mention. Even with all this new fame, he’s still loyal to his ‘niggas’ and to XO.

As for the cockiness, he’s had that side to him all along, that’s nothing new. In the Complex interview and Reddit AMA, he reveals how he can “shit out albums like its nothing” and how he thinks he’s changed the music industry with his dark R&B style. Not to mention the fact that he’s been bragging about his ‘bedroom skills’ since House of Balloons.
He’s just a little more open with it now, maybe because he has so much more to be cocky about.
